a difference
In 2003, during a casual dinner, our co-founders Nishes Shrestha and Suman Shrestha stumbled upon an unexpected opportunity. While not actively seeking new ventures, Suman observed Nishes’ dog contentedly gnawing on a piece of Churpi: a traditional Himalayan hard cheese preserved through centuries-old methods still revered in Nepal. This cheese resonated with Suman’s childhood memories from Nepal. This chance encounter sparked an idea, fuelled by Nishes’ collaboration, to leverage this cultural heritage in crafting premium
dog chews.
For four years, the team dedicated themselves to thorough research, aiming to eliminate lactose from the cheese while perfecting its texture to fashion an innovative chew tailored specifically for dogs. Their diligent efforts bore fruit when they showcased their creation at a pet fair in Bellingham, WA, in September 2007. The Himalayan Dog Chew® proved immensely popular, selling out almost instantly. This marked the birth of a new category within the pet industry.
